Explore the lovely county of Oxfordshire with your detective hat on! We shall spend time in the beautiful city of Oxford ‘the city of dreaming spires’ with its exquisite architecture and ancient university. We will meander through pretty villages, discover a few hidden gems and visit one of England’s most magnificent stately homes, Blenheim Palace. With its own special place in Britain’s history, Blenheim Palace is a true national treasure, come and enjoy the history and splendour of the Palace, Park and Gardens, now a World Heritage Site.

SUNDAY: Following our morning departure we travel to Oxford where we enjoy an afternoon admiring this beautiful city. Depart Oxford late afternoon to travel to our hotel located on the banks of the River Thames, the Shillingford Bridge Hotel for our four-night stay.


  • A full day passing through the towns and villages used in filming locations within the Midsomer Murders television series. We shall visit Wallingford, better known to Midsomer Murders fans as Causton. Why not visit the Corn Exchange which is Barnaby’s home. We also visit Dorchester on Thames, a pretty village overlooked by the Abbey, it appears as Midsomer Newton Museum. We shall complete our day by boarding a Thames Cruise at Caversham to Mapledurham Lock which feels a world away. You will see wildlife, open countryside, islands and the Berkshire Downs. We will turn at the Mapledurham Lock taking a panoramic view of the Weir, before cruising downstream past Mapledurham House, which has a history of filming for various television series.
  • A drive through Oxfordshire’s villages with a brief stop in Bampton, staying with the TV theme, this village was used for much of the outdoor filming for Downton Abbey. Onto visit Bladon Church, where Sir Winston Churchill is buried. We complete our day with a visit to the magnificent Blenheim Palace, this 2100 acre estate was Churchills’ Birthplace and is home to the Duke and Duchess of Marlborough.
  • Today we visit the picturesque riverside town of Marlow. The town became a popular riverside resort and new houses reflect this in their Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian exteriors. The afternoon is spent in the historic market town of Henley-on-Thames, as beautiful and intimately connected as its name suggests with the River Thames, being sited on one of the most majestic stretches of the river with the beech clad hills of The Chilterns acting as a worthy backdrop.

 THURSDAY: Depart our hotel and keeping off of the motorway we travel by way of the Vale of White Horse to the edge of the Cotswolds and Cirencester for our early lunchtime stop. Continue our journey home arriving home for late afternoon/early evening.

Shillingford Bridge Hotel is situated on one of the loveliest reaches of the River Thames between Oxford and Henley. The River View Restaurant serves freshly prepared food and has panoramic views over the hotel’s grounds as well as the banks of the Thames, you can relax in the afternoon on the patio and enjoy the beautiful views across the river. The 40 en-suite bedrooms are equipped with television, radio, direct dial telephone, tea/coffee making facilities, hairdryer and trouser press. The hotel does not have a lift but a few ground floor rooms are available.

Staying in the royal winter playground of Klosters this tour offers outstanding mountain scenery as well as visits to Austria and Italy. The highlight of the trip is the wonderful journey on board the Bernina Express, the highest conventional train in Europe reaching an altitude of 7,400ft as we cross the breathtaking Bernina Mountains. The Alpine city of Chur offers both city life and enchanting mountain scenery with a mix of narrow, winding streets which sits amongst the unadulterated snow-capped mountains.

SATURDAY: After our early morning departure we travel to Dover for the ferry crossing into Calais. Continue to Reims for our overnight hotel.

SUNDAY: Crossing into Switzerland we arrive at our resort of Klosters and our hotel for our five-night stay.


  • We head westwards to one of the smallest countries in Europe, Liechtenstein. We stop in the capital Vaduz, where there will be the opportunity to visit the Liechtenstein National Museum, which gives a fascinating insight into the history of this little country. We continue our journey to Chur where we join the Arosabahn for a return journey to Arosa. This lovely mountain railway takes us from the bustling town of Chur climbing 1000 metres over just 26 kilometres around tight curves and steep inclines.
  • Our excursion takes us along some of the most spectacular roads in Europe. We commence our ascent along the Flüela Pass to the Austrian border and the resort of Nauders, before traversing the magnificent Reschenpass into Italy. The route descends past the impressive Lake Reschen before we climb back into Switzerland, passing the beautiful Swiss National Park and its amazing scenery.
  • The highlight of our holiday is the spectacular Bernina Express train journey from Davos to Tirano. A high point of this journey is the panoramic view from the Bernina Express as it passes glaciers on its descent to a land of swaying palms. The journey goes through 55 tunnels and over 196 bridges. The section between Thusis and Tirano has been classed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We disembark the train in Tirano and return to Klosters via the outstanding Flüela Pass.

FRIDAY: We leave Switzerland and enjoy the beautiful scenery before arriving at Reims for our overnight hotel.

SATURDAY: Travel to Calais for the return ferry crossing back to Dover. We continue homewards towards the Westcountry to arrive home early evening.

Buckingham Palace serves as both the office and London residence of Her Majesty the Queen and it is one of the few working royal palaces remaining in the world today. Once the Queen departs for her summer holiday, Buckingham Palace opens its door to visitors where you can see the 19 staterooms which are used by the Royal family to entertain their guests on State, ceremonial and official occasions.  Clarence House is the official residence of HRH The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall, Clarence House is one of the last remaining aristocrat townhouses in London. It is unique amongst the royal houses for having an atmosphere of a much-loved family home and the interior reflects the changes in occupancy over the past two centuries.

FRIDAY: We have a fairly early start to travel to London for an early afternoon visit to Buckingham Palace.  Transfer to the Holiday Inn, Kensington High Street to check-in.

SATURDAY: This morning we shall visit Clarence House with free time to explore London.  Depart London 1600 to return back to the Westcountry during the evening.
