One of the world’s most beautiful islands lying in the middle of the Irish Sea, the Isle of Man is a treasure chest waiting to be discovered. You will find natural beauty, breath-taking scenery, unspoilt beaches and a pace of life that is unique. The Isle of Man is steeped in its heritage, with a mix of Celtic crosses, crafting communities, Viking burial sites, medieval castles as well as the world’s largest working water wheel – The Lady Isabella. With a working Victorian transport system of narrow gauge steam trains, electric and horse-drawn trams, the Isle of Man is a step back in time for you to enjoy.
MONDAY: We depart the Westcountry and drive to our overnight hotel in the Lancashire area.
TUESDAY: We board the ferry from Heysham to Douglas, we then continue to the Rutland Hotel.
EXCURSION PROGRAMME:
- First, we visit Tynwald Hill, home of the World’s most continuous parliament, then onto Peel, a historic fishing port popular for its fine sands and delicious Manx Kippers. We complete our day with a visit to Ramsey which takes the position as the second-largest town on the Isle of Man.
- A visit to the Laxey Wheel and Snaefell for an optional train ride on the Mountain Railway, the only mountain electric railway in the British Isles, which takes you on a breath-taking 5-mile journey from Laxey to the summit of Snaefell (please note we have based this visit on 2019 opening hours and may be subject to change).
- First a visit to Castletown the old capital of the island. Onto Calf of Man, a small island at the south-western extremity of the Isle of Man from which it is separated by a narrow strait of water known as Calf Sound. We continue onto Port Erin well known as an old smuggling site and a pretty Victorian seaside town.
SUNDAY: We board the ferry from Douglas to Heysham and then continue south and travel back home for arrival during the early evening.

Located on the desirable Queen’s promenade, overlooking the spectacular Douglas Bay, your hotel offers comfort, style and a welcoming atmosphere that will help you unwind. All bedrooms are accessible via the lift (not suitable for wheelchairs) and are en-suite with telephones, tea/coffee making facilities, satellite television, broadband and hairdryer. There are nine steps to access the hotel entrance, there are no ground floor rooms.
