MONDAY: We embark on our journey north to Cumbria and the Shap Wells Hotel, situated high in the Cumbrian Fells.

  • We travel a few miles north to the outskirts of Penrith where we start our scenic drive along the shores of Ullswater, thought to be one of the most beautiful English Lakes and where Wordsworth saw the daffodils of his famed poem. We continue over the magnificent Kirkstone Pass, which drops down into Windermere giving panoramic views of the lake. Onto Ambleside and finally tranquil Grasmere where you may like to visit Dove Cottage and the Wordsworth Museum.
  • We start our morning with a drive along the Bassenthwaite Lake to the bustling town of Cockermouth. We then travel over the Whinlatter Pass to Keswick, sandwiched between the towering mass of Skiddaw and Derwent Water, one of the most stunning stretches of water in Britain. Enjoy free time here before we make our way back to Shap.
  • We shall start our day with a single journey on the train from Haverthwaite to Bowness. Continue our drive along the shores of Lake Windermere to arrive into Windermere for some free time.  We then travel to the market town of Kendal before returning to Shap.
