Based in the heart of the traditional town of Westport and includes visits to Westport House, the islands of the Wild Atlantic Way and Kylemore Abbey. This tour offers something for everyone with grand stately homes, Irish culture and history and the breath-taking scenery of the Wild Atlantic Way. Award-winning Westport, our host resort is situated on the edge of Clew Bay and is surrounded by magnificent scenery and provides an excellent location for our itinerary.
SUNDAY: A fairly early start to travel into Wales and to Pembroke for the afternoon ferry crossing to Rosslare. Continue to the Talbot Hotel in Wexford.
MONDAY: Our journey today will take us along the outskirts of the Wicklow mountains to Powerscourt Gardens for our morning coffee stop. We then cross through the middle of Ireland to the Wyatt Hotel in Westport for our four-night stay.
TUESDAY: Travel to Westport House, set amongst lush gardens, rich mature woodlands and broad promenades, the 300-year-old house is one of the jewels in the crown of Ireland’s historical family homes. Continue to Castlebar where we will stop for a visit the National Museum of Ireland to discover the history of Irish Country life.
WEDNESDAY: Today we travel to Roonagh Pier for a short boat trip to beautiful and remote Clare Island, where we meet a guide for an Island Heritage talk before visiting Grace O’Malley Granuailes Castle. Time to enjoy a stroll around the harbour and beach before our soup and sandwich lunch at Sailor’s Bar. After lunch, we board our ferry to Achill, where we re-join our coach. We continue to Keel for free time before embarking on a stunning drive back to the mainland via the bridge.
THURSDAY: Travel south through Connemara National Park, one of the wildest and most beautiful regions in the whole of Ireland. Travel via the beautiful village of Leenane at the head of Killary Harbour, Ireland’s only fjord. Onto Kylemore Abbey located in the heart of the Connemara countryside. The abbey has been owned and inhabited by the Benedictine community since 1920. It boasts Ireland’s largest walled garden. Continue to Galway for the remainder of the afternoon.
FRIDAY: We say farewell to our hotel and travel south by way of Galway and Athlone for our lunch stop. We continue through Tullamore to Carlow then on through to Wexford and back to the Talbot Hotel – a scenic day.
SATURDAY: Depart the Talbot Hotel and travel the short distance to Rosslare for the morning sailing into Pembroke. Continue our journey through Wales and into England to arrive home late afternoon/early evening.
